How to traceroute

  • A traceroute is a function which traces the path from one network to another. It allows us to diagnose the source of many problems.
  • Another utility PING, is often used prior to using traceroute to see whether a host is present on the network.
  • Traceroute is a handy tool or function both for understanding where problems are in the Internet network and for getting a detailed sense of the Internet itself.

 

How to traceroute

  • follow the following steps for Trace Route of connection request.
  • open ISP or Admin Dashboard.
  • click on third option from Right side.
  • it will be open Ping and Trace Route Model.

  • When you enter the traceroute command, the utility initiates the sending of a packet (using the Internet Control Message Protocol or ICMP), including in the packet a time limit value.
  • TTL(Time to Live) that is designed to be exceeded by the first router that receives it, which will return a Time Exceeded message.
  • you can select any option from here like Server Or NAS For show connection route and connection time.
  • if you select Sever then enter Domain name or IP Address.
  • click on Submit Button.

  • you can see Total number of traceroute packets, IP Address, Total time of packets are display in details.
  • it’s trace your Domain name or IP address route by route starting to ending path of network.
  • if you select NAS Option then enter Domain name or IP Address.

  • select NAS Address from NAS section box
  • then click on submit button.
  • here display Number of route, IP Address and number of Times.
  • it will be display step by step your IP Address or Domain name Route.
  • If does not find the route or path it will show nothing at this time and give zero.
  • traceroute identifies each computer/server on that list and the amount of time it took the data to get from one computer to the next
